American Airlines Announces Plan to Add 2,500 Pilots, AviationCrossing Reports 3,000 Job Openings in Aviation Across America

October 28, 2012 — Pasadena, California — American Airlines CEO Tom Horton announced on Wednesday that the airline will be adding 2,500 pilots to its ranks over the next five years. The figure includes both new and recalled pilots.

Horton made this announcement in a letter to employees in which he talked about the progress the company is making while going through Chapter 11 reorganization. The company will also add 1,500 new flight attendants over the next year. One of the main reasons for the immediate need for so many flight attendants is because many of the airline’s current flight attendants have taken up the airline’s voluntary buyouts.

AviationCrossing.com, which focuses only on aviation jobs, has found 3,000 jobs in the industry across America. The site has been able to locate 327 pilot jobs. The highest number of job openings are in the A&P mechanic job positions, at 531 job listings.

AviationCrossing.com’s CEO Harrison Barnes says that the site is able to track down an increasing number of jobs in the industry every week. “The industry is definitely seeing some growth. Its not just pilots and flight attendants job openings that are increasing, aircraft maintenance related jobs are the biggest chunk of job openings that we have on our site right now.”

American Airlines is adding pilots because the airline is also once again in expansion mode. A spokesman for the airline said that the plan for adding pilots is in line with the airline’s plan to increase its flying at hubs by 20 percent, add new international routes and renew its fleet.

Testimonial of the Week

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
