Pasadena, CA  — Since May 2009, the airline industry’s payrolls have decreased by 2.7 percent, in total numbers a loss of 13,670 jobs. Jobs in the airline industry have declined for 23 consecutive months. The total number of both full-time and part-time employees in the industry was 562,485. The data gathered is from the Bureau of Transportation.

The airlines with the biggest job losses since May 2009 were American, Comair, and Continental each with over 2,000 layoffs. Frontier with 452 new hires and JetBlue with 504 hires were among the few airlines who added a substantial number of jobs. The International Air Transport Association, in its survey of global airlines found out that most airlines planned to hire more employees in the next 12 months.

The industry is still trying to recover from the hikes in fuel costs and downturn in passenger traffic of the last two years. However, AviationCrossing.com, a niche job site focusing on just jobs in the aviation industry has been able to list almost 3,000 jobs. ''All the big airlines have been reducing their staff, but the budget airlines and other smaller airlines are still hiring, especially technical people.'' says A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of AviationCrossing.

Only AviationCrossing consolidates every job it can find in the domain and puts all of the job listings it locates in one place.

  • We have more jobs than any other job board.
  • We list jobs you will not find elsewhere that are hidden in small regional publications and employer websites
  • We collect jobs from more than 4,429,376 websites and post them on our site.
  • We are private, and therefore far fewer people are applying for the jobs on our site than are applying for those on public job boards.
What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
