The city of Chennault, located in Lake Charles, Louisiana, can say goodbye to unemployment because 130 new jobs will be created thanks to an award given by the Louisiana Economic Development Corporation. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal announced last Friday that the award of $1.5 million will be given to companies that do business in the city of Chennault to help workers retain their jobs and also to help add more jobs in the community. Aeroframe, an aviation company that offers services to both commercial and military concerns, is just one of the companies chosen to receive a $375,000 award. In accepting the funds, the company is expected to create 50 new jobs and pay its workers a minimum of $50,000 per year before benefits. In addition, they are obligated to keep all of their current 300 employees. Northrop Gruman, a global defense and technology company, was awarded $1.2 million. The company says it will use its funds to construct a 20,000 square foot building and create 82 new jobs while also retaining 217 existing positions. The funds will also help the company pay an average salary of $51,000 a year, plus benefits, to its employees.
