Job transfers could lead to unemployment for many American Airline workers in Fort Worth, Texas, as the nation’s largest airline carrier plans to move its maintenance work on Boeing 777 aircrafts to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
As bad as job cuts may sound, a transfer to Oklahoma only informs residents there to polish up their resumes.
A letter was sent out by the company’s vice president of maintenance, who announced the job cuts. The letter said that the company would lay off around 1,300 mechanics, including 200 related workers in management, 900 flight attendants, and over 200 pilots.
Instead of sending out pink slips immediately, the company is offering a generous voluntary severance package in the hopes of avoiding layoffs.
