JOB SUMMARY

Will be stationed with LifeGuard 10 (Westlake Heliport in Moneta, VA), but may be required to work shifts at other LifeGuard bases.

The Flight Paramedic collaborates with the CCPT Communications Center and air/ground transport teams to provide individualized care and transportation for patients of all ages, with a focus of those who are critically ill. Utilizes delegation and critical thinking skills to provide quality service through a team oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.

Promotes a safety-first culture in every aspect of the job.  Provides patient care during transport in a ground or rotor-wing ambulance, on scene, and at the sending and receiving hospitals.  Rotates responsibilities as the Attendant-in-Charge, driver, and secondary attendant and in the role as team leader.  Works in a variety of geographic settings in both indoor and outdoor environments.  May be exposed to high levels of stress and emergency situations.  Individual must be flexible and adapt rapidly to changing situations.  High physical effort is required for moving patients.  May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, infectious diseases, bio-hazardous and hazardous materials, including regulated medical wastes, and combative patients.  Uses downtime effectively.  Frequent exposure to 9 stresses of flight (as determined by the USAF) and to Instrument Flight Rule conditions.

Education: High School Graduate or equivalent and completion of approved Paramedic course.  Associates Degree preferred.

Experience: 3 years of Full Time field paramedic experience required.

Licensure/Certifications:  Must currently possess National Registered Paramedic certification and current Virginia Paramedic certification required. Must meet weight requirement of maximum of 210 pounds at the time of offer and sustain that weight throughout employment. As of 1/1/16, FP-C (Flight Paramedic-Certified) is required within 2 years of hire.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Must have completed and maintained ACLS, BLS, and EVOC certifications. Must obtain PALS, PHTLS, or BTLS, ATLS (audit), Haz-MatAwareness, and NRP certification within 12 months of hire and maintain. Use of the PAPR is not an option for employees transporting patients on airborne precautions, because the hood will not fit over the required flight helmet.  Therefore, all employees who transport patients via air, must be able to wear N95 respirator.OUR VALUES
