Overview

The Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) (Field) provides support by using the Cathode Ray Tube (CRT)/keyboard/Voice Communication System (VCS) to simulate the actions and communication of pilots and remote ATC facilities during medium and high-fidelity training exercises. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for the integration of CNI Core Competencies into daily functions, including: commitment to integrity, knowledge / quality of work, supporting financial goals of the company, initiative / motivation, cooperation / relationships, problem analysis / discretion, accomplishing goals through organization, positive oral / written communication skills, leadership abilities, commitment to Affirmative Action, reliability / dependability, flexibility and ownership / accountability of actions taken.

Receives voice commands from students, inputs proper entries into the automated system to simulate pilot actions, translates displayed information into appropriate ATC terminology, and responds to the student via the VCS utilizing proper phraseology.

Operates computer equipment to provide a simulated air traffic environment reflecting typical pilot responses to trainee directions.

Provides simulated communications to the trainee on a variety of coordination activities with adjacent sector during the course of a lab problem.

Provides scripted communications to the students, follows prompts to simulate inter/intra coordination related to training problem.

May distribute flight strips to proper training sectors, when necessary, on a time critical basis.

Transcribes required information on remote flight progress strips when necessary.

Monitors student to voice recognition software interaction for errors, makes correcting keyboard entries when required.

Follows scenario script to ensure timely scenario inputs occur.

Communicates effectively with FAA personnel at all levels to insure the training delivered at the local level is responsive to local needs, is comprehensive and of consistent high quality.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers.  Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources.  Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of one (1) year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education / experience. Experience working in a multidisciplinary team (Multimedia Developers, Quality Assurance, Instructions System Designers, Subject Matter Experts, Instructors). Must demonstrate minimum keyboard speed of forty (40) wpm with ninety (90) percent accuracy.

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

Working knowledge of the FAAO JO 7110.65.

Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.);

Basic knowledge of current technologic tools (tablets, notebooks, applications, etc.).

Knowledge of FAA e-LMS.

Ability to read and interpret materials such as diagrams and manuals.

Ability to speak clearly and be understood.

Effective oral and written communications skills.

Effective team building skills.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

Must achieve simulation laboratory certification in Terminal radar lab or En Route lab within one hundred twenty (120) days of reporting for duty. If initial certification is anticipated to extend beyond this requirement, a written waiver must be requested from the authorized Contracting Officer (CO) or an authorized representative.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
