Bering Straits Aerospace Services (BSAS) is looking for an Aviation Life Support System Mechanic 2 at Point Mugu, CA.
This position is located within the Paraloft shop of Fleet Readiness Center Activity Aircraft Division under Aviation Life Support System Branch. The technician will perform repair, modification, fabrication, maintenance, inspection and repacking of multiple Type Maintenance Series Aircraft platform parachutes and drogues chutes systems. Additionally the technician will perform fabrication, manufacture, testing, inspection and repacking of various inflatable Life Support Systems. The technician will also perform maintenance, testing and evaluation of Oxygen related components systems. In addition to the normal tasking, the worker will also be performing the removal and installation of Non-Nuclear Ordnance Pyrotechnics and Cartridge Actuating Devises (CADS) from various parachute assemblies. The technician will be in compliance with the Naval Aviation maintenance program (COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790 series) and other directives as required by higher authorities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Receive work assignment from the Lead Aviation Life Support System Supervisor, or Military Supervisor, the technician will inspect all Aviation Life Support assemblies and components to determine repair, modification technical directive compliance, and replacement as necessary to restore items to original equipment manufacturer condition.
Unpack, inspect and repair and/or replace defective subassemblies of personnel parachutes, aircraft deceleration, and target recovery parachutes I accordance with current instructions, and often, in the case of target recovery parachutes, per verbal or non-standard instruction from test engineers as directed.
Repair and/or replace over-aged parachute harnesses, containers, and other subassembly parts of parachutes as required by publications.
Disassemble parachute automatic actuators, test for proper firing, with the use of actuator test chamber, and reassemble unit as per instructions and directives.
Remove and install Ordnance Pyrotechnics and Cartridge Actuated Devices in accordance with established NAVAIR publications and instructions.
Inspect and repack parachutes following the current established NAVAIR publications and in accordance with current directives, maintenance manuals, and standard operating procedures.
Make final inspections by checking external condition and appearance utilizing the go-no-go gauge and templates to ascertain a Ready for Issue status on parachutes.
Record and enter remarks on the maintenance performed on Parachute History Records. Compliance with current technical directives and/or bulletins by affixing his/her signatures on Maintenance Action Forms or making the appropriate entries into the NALCOMIS system.
Perform visual inspections, functional tests, leak tests, and other prerequisites for the test and check inspection process of inflatable assemblies. Repair, modify, update, and maintain inflatable floatation equipment.
Inspect and repack Rigid Survival Seat kits. Test and check Aircrew issued personal anti-exposure suits and other authorized survival equipment used by the US Navy.
Test, inspect and perform alteration and repairs on such items like Life Rafts, Life Preservers, and other lifesaving equipment. Test check, and repair flight clothing Anti-G suits, Flight suits, harnesses, helmets, and all other Aviators flight clothing.
Test and operate Carbon Dioxide transfer system.
Repair and fabricate tarpaulins, covers, tents, recovery nets, seat cushions, and other special items required/requested by authorized personnel.
Test, inspect, and evaluate Aircraft/Personnel mounted Oxygen related components in accordance with established NAVAIR publications and standard operation procedures.
Perform test, inspection, and refill of Liquid Oxygen Converters for proper operational function with specifications established by NAVAIR publications.
Perform test sampling and interpret contamination levels on newly generated Oxygen from the LOX farm.
Perform preventive maintenance, minor/major repairs on powered sewing machines.
Receive, issue, and inspect flight clothing/equipment.
Perform Command mandatory and scheduled training.
Perform normal clean-up and other duties that may be assigned by the management.

Job Requirements :
Required:
Graduate of the U.S. Navy’s PR “A” school or possess an extensive background through experience or equivalent schooling in the repair, modification, fabrication, maintenance, inspection, and repacking procedures of Aviation Life Support Systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must understand the use, operation, installation, and safety precautions to be observed in utilizing automatic parachute actuators, ballistic spreading guns, and assorted mechanical and pyrotechnical types of support equipment. Must be able to select, use, and operate a variety of standard equipment such as single and multi-needle sewing machines, power shears, heat searing and wax dipping equipment, flow meters, and various test stands.
Must be capable of disseminating clear and efficient instructions to other personnel in matters pertaining to Aviation Life Support Systems and safety procedures.
Skilled in Microsoft suite of programs and NALCOMIS.
Must be thoroughly proficient in the selection and use of numerous hand tools, packing boxes, stowage cans, and hydraulic presses.
Must be able to read and interpret sketches, specifications and diagrams as well as perform layout using mathematical computations.
Preferred
Prior military service.
Must have a thorough knowledge of all materials used in repair procedures of Aviation Life Support Systems and related components.
Must be completely familiar with applicable technical publications used to complete assigned tasks

Job is performed in an office/Paraloft setting with exposure to computer screens, various Aviation Life Support Systems tools, material, and equipment and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.
