We are currently looking for an Aviation Technical Publications Team Leader at our Salem, Oregon location in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. The Aviation Technical Publications Team Leader will create reader-friendly user's guides and installation and maintenance manuals for avionics products, collaborate with cross functional teams and supervise the technical publications team. Other functions include:



Manage the team for efficient execution of schedules as well as personnel issues

Insure the team follows department standards and policies

Research and write pilot’s guides, quick reference guides, installation manuals, and maintenance manuals

Create electronic documents using word processing and desktop publishing tools

Communicate with the Design Engineers in areas that relate to the product specifications and product development

Facilitate the rework of mechanical drawings and screen captures

Prepare electronic documents for print output and support printing vendors

Work in a team environment within the Technical Publications area to constantly improve the archival, storage and documentation process

Edit copy written by other Technical Writers for content organization, style, voice, audience and consistency of format

 
','!*!Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a field relevant to performing a role substantially similar to the essential function of this job description with a GPA greater than 3.0 and a minimum of 3 years of experieince working at Garmin Aviation Technical Writer or a minimum of 10 years related experieince as a technical writer performing similar functions as listed above.  Addition qualifications include:


Proficient experience with desktop publishing tools
Extensive word processing experience
Avionics/aviation experience and/or knowledge
Working knowledge of S1000D publishing standards and relevant software
Preferred qualifications include:

Experience with FrameMaker, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe inDesgin
Familiarity with mass-production printing equipment and processes
Previous experience using Garmin aviation products
Previous experinece as a team lead/supervisor
Superior academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Private Pilot License - Instrument rating a plus
