About the Position
Operates a centralized telephone switchboard to answer and connect incoming calls to County staff or departments or acts as the initial contact for the traveling public at the airport; provides factual information to the public; provides airport paging services. 
This recruitment will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies which may occur within the next six months.

The Department of Aviation reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the hiring interview.
Equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of full-time general clerical experience, six  months of which includes operating a switchboard with multiple trunk lines.   
Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the Education and Work Experience sections of the application. Applicants not meeting these requirements will not be considered for employment.     

Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.  

Residency Requirement: Permanent employees must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers' license laws within 90 days of employment.
Background Check:  Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration.  Note:  all prospective hires must present two original government issued ID's upon acceptance of job offer.  Examples of acceptable ID's include a Passport, Driver's License or DMV issued ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, Voter Registration card, school issued ID with picture, etc.
Physical Demands
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.
Examples of Duties
Operates a telephone system with multiple trunk lines and extensions to answer and route incoming calls.  Places a variety of calls, including long distance, collect, credit card and conference calls.  Pages individuals or provides information over a public address system.  Maintains and updates information database.  Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.  May act as liaison between the public and various airport service providers.  Searches vast databases for requested information.  May operate flight information display unit in an airport setting.  Functions as Custodial Help Desk liaison.  Operates standard office equipment, including computers and performs a variety of routine clerical duties.  Provides general factual information to callers about the County's departments and programs and specific departmental activities; refers more detailed or technical questions to the appropriate department or staff person.  Accepts calls using a TDD system.
Group Insurance:
Health and dental insurance is available at a minimal expense to eligible employees, spouses and dependents. The County pays the monthly life insurance premium for eligible employees.

Service Connected Disability Insurance:
Eligible employees are covered by a Workman's Compensation Program in accordance with the provisions of the Nevada Industrial Insurance Act (NRS Chapter 616) and the Nevada Occupational Diseases Act (NRS 617).

Long-Term Disability Insurance:
The County pays a monthly premium toward a long-term disability plan for eligible employees.

Vacation leave accrual is based on length of County employment. Initial accrual is at the rate of 3.08 vacation hours for each biweekly pay period.

Sick Leave:
Eligible employees accrue 3.7 hours of sick leave for each biweekly pay period. Employees completing 10 years of service accrue an additional .92 hours of sick leave per biweekly pay period.

Miscellaneous Leaves:
Court leave, military leave, parental leave, leave without pay, blood donor leave, education leave, and County promotional/transfer application examination leave are available (upon approval) for eligible permanent employees.

Full-time employees become a member of the Nevada State Public Employees Retirement System.

Credit Union:
Clark County employees and their families are eligible to join the Clark County Credit Union.

Tuition Reimbursement:
Subject to availability of funds, eligible employees may be awarded tuition reimbursement upon successful completion of pre-approved, job related courses.
